Mandrel Questions:
Q: I have a 7mm mandrel which I purchased from a source other than Wood-N-Whimsies, Will it work with your kits? Will it also work with Cigar Pen Kits and with other kits with different sized tubes? A: Yes, The mandrel remains the same size with every kit purchased from any kit line we sell here at Wood-N-Whimsies. What will make up the difference in the various tube sizes and kit types are the bushings. You will need to purchase a set of bushings for each type of kit you buy.
Q: What does the term “whip” refer to? A: Whip is a term used to describe the effect of centrifugal force exerted on the mandrel at higher speeds which causes it to flex out from the center and cause your turning to become egg shaped. This effect is heightened by over-tightening the keeper nut. To counter this effect you can slow down the turning speed and also refrain from over tightening the keeper nut. It is OK to start with the mandrel tight enough to prevent the blank from spinning on the mandrel. Once the blank has been turned round the nut should be loosened and only hand tightened. This will minimize the whip.
Shipping Questions:
Q: How long will it take for me to receive my order? A: The turnaround time on an order is within two business days. If we have to order your items in from PSI it will take about 5 to 7 days depending on what day of the week you place your order. We place our orders to Penn State on Monday morning at 8:00 am. It takes five to seven days for us to receive the order, then another two days for you to receive it from us. Orders are sent by FedEx 2 Day Air and can be received from us in as fast as one day.
Q: A question asked by our international customers is “will you fix the numbers on the customs documentation so that it appears that my $400.00 purchase is only worth less than $30.00”? A: NO, The penalty by law for falsifying customs documents to prevent paying duty is as follows: On the first conviction, a fine of not less than 10 times the amount of duties or tax or $5000.00 whichever is the lesser amount, and of not more than 20 times the amount of duties or tax or $5000.00 whichever is the greater amount, except where the amount of duties cannot be ascertained the penalty may amount to a fine not exceeding $5000.00. On the second or subsequent conviction to such a fine or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.
Q: My shipping costs are higher than I expected. Is there a less expensive way to ship my goods? A: We ship via FedEx 2 Day Air. If you were charged for a larger box at check-out and we can fit your items into a FedEx envelope without danger of crushing, we will ship via the less expensive envelope and refund you the difference back onto your credit card or PayPal account. We do not profit from shipping.
Refunds and Exchanges:
Q: I bought an item and do not like it, do you accept returns? A: Yes, as long as your item is returned within 15 days from the date of purchase you will receive a full refund of the purchase price. General Questions:
Q: Do you have instructions for the kits you carry?
A: Yes, we have instructions not just for pen kits but for almost everything else we carry. CLICK HERE to go to the list of printable instruction pages.
Q: How do I order Penn State products from Wood-N-Whimsies that are not on the website?
A: You can call your order in or send us an email and let us know what items you wish to purchase. We will in turn send you an itemized PayPal invoice via email with your items listed with the prices and a total amount due including shipping. Please keep in mind that we sell a lot of PSI Woodworking products but not all. There are several items PSI sells that we will not carry due to their unpopularity. Shelf real-estate is expensive and we will not fill shelves with things that do not sell.
Q: How do I pay for my phone order? A: Provide us with your credit card number, expiration date, name on the card, and the CVV code. (This is the three digit code on the back of your card just to the right the signature box). If you would prefer to pay by a means other than by credit card we accept money orders and personal checks. Never email us your credit card number. This information is very easily retrieved from servers by crooks after your financial information.
Q: How do I care for my Micromesh? A: If properly cared for your Micro-Mesh should last for about 30 to 40 pens depending on the material you are polishing. You should always sand your project with conventional sand paper up to around a 350 grit. Then switch to Micro-Mesh and polish with each grit in a sequential sequence. Each time you use a piece you should clean it out before and after use by wrapping it sharply on your palm to dislodge the dust. When it seems to be clogged and ineffective it can be cleaned with mild soapy water. Rinse it well and air dry, do not use heat to dry it. Once you deplete it after to washing it cannot be rejuvenated again and it is time for a new set.
Q: The pencil kits I bought have a problem with the lead not coming out or once it is out, it will not stay out when I write with it. Is there a defect in the mechanism? A: Most likely, No. The reason you are having problems is that the lead is either broken inside the propulsion(click)mechanism or is has been loaded improperly. The lead should be loaded from the back end of the click mechanism. This is done by pulling off the cap, removing the eraser and dropping in the lead. Replace the eraser and cap and begin clicking the mechanism. In a few clicks the lead will emerge from the front and you are all set.
Q: My pencil mechanism/click pen is too long and will not fit completely inside the assembly. What is wrong with my pen/pencil kit? A: There was nothing initially wrong with your kit. What has happened is that when you trimmed the ends of your blanks you trimmed off too far down on the brass. There are four ends to trim and just a bit off of each end adds up to too short. Make sure you do not trim ANY brass. Trimming until you see shiny brass is bad juju for and pen kit, Don't do it.
